Smoldering Rose
Penned by D.C. Mitchell

Holding this flower in his arms,
He couldn't help but notice certain things about her.
Sheepishly albeit guarded she leaned into him,
The glint of playfulness in her eyes did not dim.

Her skin was silky smooth under the touch of his exploring fingers.
His nose close to her neck inhaling her fragrance,
A mixture of warm amber and crème anglaise.
Her eyes glistened with laughter like the morning dew
On velvety petals greeted by the morning sun,
Yet could pierce his soul liken to the prick of a rose's thorn.
Her warm lips pressed against his own,
The dance of their tongues stifling a moan.

Under her innocent appearance he knew
Burned an all consuming, unquenchable fire.
One like he had never known before,
Fueled by a fiery passion and desire.
No, he was wrong in comparing her to a flower,
What smoldered underneath, he couldn't begin to imagine ~
She was so much more.
